It is well known that sitting at a desk in front of a computer for much of your working life can have a detrimental impact on your back health. In fact, it is a common cause of poor posture and lower back pain.
So, we’ve put together 3 simple, practical tips for preventing and improving your posture while sat at a computer. You’ll find that by implementing these easy routines into your working day, there’s a much greater chance of back health success.
1. KEEP YOUR EYES LEVEL WITH YOUR SCREEN
Keeping your eyes level with your screen can be done in just a few simple steps, and there are numerous products available, like the posture stand, that enable you to maintain effective eye level with your computer screen. These should be adjusted so that you are sitting at arm’s length with the screen(s) at eye level. When done correctly, you will feel immediately a better sitting posture.
2. DON’T RELY ON A LARGE EXPENSIVE CHAIR
Most solutions to back health are straightforward and simple. They don’t need the large investment required of a big, fancy office chair. In many cases, poor sitting posture is caused by lack of support in the lumbar region. So how can this be resolved?
The first is to try something called a BackBoard. This device fits neatly onto the seat and ensures the person is sitting stationary in an healthy “S” curve position. The second is a Posture Cushion. This device turns your regular seat into an “active seat” by using a semi-inflated cushioned disc. This pressured system focus balance while actively encouraging the “S” curve described above.
Both devices can be used with most regular office chairs.
3. TRY THE POSTURE HERO™
Wearing time: 1 hour per day in front of the computer
The third step is to try the Posture Hero™. This practical, discreet device has been designed to enhance your back posture and prevent slouching towards the computer screen. It works by pulling back the shoulders and straightening the spine, therefore training your body to use good posture while sat in front of the computer.
4. ADDITIONAL EXERCISE HINTS & TIPS
Don’t forget, gradually introduce yourself to these methods and devices. The quickest win here is to adjust your monitors for a healthy sitting position. It’s also important, where possible, to move around periodically. Using devices like the Posture Hero™ is fantastic for encouraging a healthy back, but ensure you take time to go for a walk at least once every day.
